It is the responsibility of individual students to find and secure an appropriate employment opportunity. This should normally not include more than two traineeships which must be completed within a period of at least 10 months and within a maximum of 12 months. The position must be approved by the course leader prior to commencement to ensure suitability. Students seeking internships will have access to standard internship preparation activities offered by the Student Engagement and Advancement (SEE) Group.
Many postgraduate courses at the University allow students the option of a 12-month internship as part of their studies. The responsibility for finding a work experience rests with the student; we cannot guarantee a placement, only the possibility of accepting it. You may find it difficult to achieve professional placements as they are very competitive and challenging, but they are also incredibly rewarding. It is very important to prepare and apply if this is the path you want to take. Employers look for excellent written and verbal communication skills and an excellent resume/portfolio. As the work placement is part of the assessed course, it is covered by the student’s student visa.
